General Discussion / Re: Any advice on giving up my residency.
« Last post by levissima on April 20, 2019, 04:19:02 PM »
I think the thing to bear in mind is that when you are resident your details pass to the Agenzia Entrata. Unfortunately as a resident you are supposed to make a tax return every year. I know many people who have not done so and never been asked but I also know others who have been caught out.

Of course, with residency comes benefits, if it?s your prima CASA, there?s no IMU to pay, you can have a residents bank account, which is cheaper and your tariffs for utilities are lower. And you can buy a car.

It?s very much swings and roundabouts and depends on personal circumstances which is best for you.

I get in a panic when I read this site
Am I missing something here? Surely if you are out of the country for 183 days in any one tax year you are legally non resident? Residency papers or not?
I got my residency last year after having a house for 15 years ..but I was buying my ex husband out so less tax. It was a simple two day job and all signed and the Mayor does knows I am not always in the village maybe for more than 183 days. I did not have to show any bank statements or private health etc Just a thought does central government give the local the  councils money if I am a resident?

65 ?  retirement age is not 65 in the Uk for people  born after around 1955 s . It's  66 + now and will probably rise.

Confusing ..I am over 60 and get free prescriptions although not my bus pass in the Uk. I don't get my state pension until I am 66. Got my resendency last year in Italy and a poo test came a couple of months later in the post. Funny tale my cleaner had opened my mail looking for bills to pay, left the mail in a heap mixed up  ..arrived with friends, few drinks and well tried to read several letters and a plastic poo test, in the mixed up mail was a metal sticker ...bar code Also in the mail was a letter about the new bin collection and some English friends had said you need proof of identity  at the new tip as it's not easy ..thought the metal strip was for the tip identification ..Agh it was to be stuck on the poo test . Laughed so much the next day with friends when I translated the letters and I realised! Happy Easter x

Fingers crossed you find a suitable home or three.

The puppy we got from you a number of years ago is doing very well. A bit crazy being an English Setter, maybe after Brexit she'll calm down.  :)
