Residency pros and cons ( not comprehensive, just from what I
Know)

Pro.
1 lower tax when purchasing a property
2 needed for buying a car
3 lower tariffs for utilities and bank accounts
4 in event of disaster, government help
5 no tax ( council tax equivalent ) on your first house

Cons
1 must complete a tax return yearly
2 should change to Italian driving license
3 have to pay tax on second home in uk

I’m sure others can add to both.

It all depends on your personal circumstances, if you own a big/ high council tax property in the uk, what you have to pay in tax can wipe out all the benefits of being resident.

Thanks both near Casoli or Lanciano

It’s either move out here or maintain abase in Uk as well and limit to 180 days but seems broad as it’s long

You have to pay the equivalent to IMU on your property in UK as second home/s and also on rental income but I think pension (state) is tax exempt. Where about are you, because there are many good comercialiste and someone might know one close to you.

If you’ve already bought your property in Italy and paid the non resident tax, there’s little to be gained by becoming resident unless you really are.

Reading hmrc website there is a double taxation agreement which I have read however am wondering what other people’s experience of claiming relief in respect of Italian taxes

My main income is a Uk pension but I also have some rental property in Uk

No italian sources of income

Any help or experience usefully received

Do you have a commercialista?  My advice would be to run everything via them first. I can't remember how much of this is dependent on being a resident or not. Before we knew what we were doing in the early stages of a big reno (we've done two now) we got tripped up by all sorts of things like not paying in the right way with the right 'dicitura' etc. Get some professional help rather than anecdotal advice.

Taxes / 10% IVA on house renovations - paperwork required, etc.?
« Last post by NigelandSue on May 31, 2018, 12:16:37 AM »
I understand that it's possible to get IVA reduced from 22% to 10% on house repairs and renovations. The Surveyor/Project Manager has sent me a form  to sign for the builder to be able to charge only 10% and get parts & materials at a reduced rate.
Is anyone familiar with this and do you know where I can find out more details about how the scheme operates, restriction, etc.?

Thanks, NigelandSue
