I checked our forecasts at 6pm on Tuesday & it was saying -18 for the overnight low, revised from the earlier prediction of -15. I don't know how cold it got, but if it got anywhere near that it would be quite something. I seem to remember that last summer maxed-out at 43C so that would give us 12 monthly temperature range of practically 60C. Move over Winnipeg!

Just following up on my own point..! It's forecast to hit 17C here is a few days; that's a 35C range in little more than a week.  ???
In Abruzzo since March 2013

Not too sure how accurate they are, but Accuweather here give historic monthly details. Picked L'Aquila simply because it always seems colder... :-X

There is another cold snap forecast for next week, time to tuck up tender plants and any seedlings.

Not again! It's been great recently being outside in the sunny, warm weather, pruning the olive trees, hacking the walnut and fig trees etc.

Il Meteo says quite a bit of snow Weds, Thurs and Fri, but AccuWeather reports just rain. Doh  ::)

I have a suspicion Accuweather get their weather from Il Meteo, but a day or so behind!

I ship all my smartphone photos off to Google, and one little favour they do me is to ask if I'd like to see what I was doing on today's date, last year.

I looked to see what I'd been up to, and found pics of a friend, in a tee-shirt, enjoying the first ice cream of 2017! We were visiting the local agricultural show, and it was an absolutely fantastic day - sunny, and 23 degrees.

What a difference a year makes. Today I had taken advantage of the stiff breeze to hang out a blanket on the washing line, only to have to dash out and retrieve it just before a cloudburst arrived. Ugh.

Was very surprised to see the swallows/swifts last week. I allways mean to make a note of the first sighting and allways forget. The fluctuation of temperature is amazing though. From sunbathing to hot water bottle, log fire and blanket in the space of a couple of hours.

To us one of the beauties of being retired or is it living in Italy and being able to get outside more? As chilly as the wind is today we had breakfast out there and spotted our first hoopoe of the year, amazingly enough trying to chase off a Kestrel sitting at the top of an acacia. Swallows were first seen here on the 13 March, followed by House Martins on the 28th, but no Swifts until this morning! So a great morning so far for new arrivals, just need a little rise in temperature now.

Hard to believe but the slopes at Alto Sangro are still open and skiable.
Shuts after tomorrow though so last chance for another year.

Now is the time for the hardy to ski in the morning and swim in the afternoon!

I’ve already seen some people swimming in the sea but it’s still much too cold for me.

It's a coming.

Look's like we are in for a bit of snow very soon. My job today is to batten down the hatches and bring in anything that could get damaged or blow away, including wrapping up one of our young lemon trees.

I do like a bit of snow and will be a (hopefully) a pleasant end to the Christmas break. My only concern is the damage the snow does to the olive trees and wishing I pruned them a little more severely than I did.

Just hope it is all cleared for school and work on 7th Jan.

Stay warm everyone and happy New Year.  8)

I’m going round making sure all batteries are fully charged, snow shovel is reachable and I’ve plenty of wood for the fire.

Snow is lovely if you don’t HAVE to go out in it.

Happy new year to all.
