Snow shovels to the ready!
« on: February 20, 2018, 07:02:10 PM »
If the forecast is correct we’re in for a bit of snow at the weekend and into next week. Nothing like last year, but best to be prepared.☃️

Monday seems to be the danger day, snow down to the sea, so you know the hills will be well hit.
It looks like the whole of the run up is non stop heavy rain?
Remembering that they didn't expect a lot of snow last year either, I hope that there are no repeats of previous bad drops.

You never really know with these forecasts, but being in the UK and seeing the forecast for here, it seems very likely this “front” is moving across the whole of Europe not just the UK. It looks to be very cold and wet (snow), but only for a few days. Fingers crossed as last year we planned to come back from the UK a lot earlier (January) and had to put it off for a week due to 2m of snow. On that occasion we spent the first 3-4 days digging snow away from the drive just to get the car down it! ::)

When it got light this morning it was raining with snow mixed in; to put it another way it will be snowing not much higher than we are (500m).

The ground's already sodden with a lot more rain to come before we get into snow proper on Sunday / Monday, assuming the forecasters stick to their story. I don't suppose we can grumble too much, so far the winter has been very gentle with us with not too much rain & no snow at all down at our level.

WrongSOTV says that "they didn't expect a lot of snow last year either".... that isn't my memory; I thought we were all thoroughly warned about serious amounts of snow for a good week or two before it arrived exactly as predicted. We certainly don't want a repeat of last year's display.  ???

I love a bit of snow!!!! As long as I am prepared. Last year I was flavor of the month when we ran out of gas! Note to self it is very hard to find a sunken gas bottle in the snow  ;D

Yes we were well prepared last year for the huge dump of snow, it doesn't look like we will have a repeat but who knows. The best thing for me when it snows is the snow BBQ's that pop up around us. Arrosticini often make an appearance.

I recall our Italian neighbour saying that it would snow, but not too much ... this might have been directed more towards the kids so they didn't get too excited though.  Not quoted from a professional service.
We got the xxxx out of there on the first day that snow fell, a day earlier than planned.  We were very lucky to leave and not be stuck with very low supplies.

Time to check that generator!

I’ve got all my rechargeable items charging, I have my snow shovel in easy reach, I’ve brought in a good load of logs for the fire and got a surplus of Diavolina to light it. Stock of candles found and ready. Lots of bottles of water, food and wine, downloaded a few programmes to watch if I loose internet. What have I forgotten?

As I’m so well prepared, it’s almost certain I won’t need any of it!

... ticks are all there except your wellies if you are really planning on using that snow shovel. Orders some wood today and the guy laughed and said "neve". He looked a little shocked when I said yes next week. Amazing service, he followed us back from shopping in the truck with our pallet of wood. Okay not the best of wood, but we have found that's been the case the last few years. Hope this forecast is wrong as there is no sunshine showing on there until a week on Saturday ???

We've basically been living inside a cloud for the last 10 days; even during the (rare) moments when it hasn't actually been raining it's been grey / cloudy / foggy & everything's been dripping & sodden. "Lawn" waterlogged. Rivers swollen. More to come. Then of course we're threatened with some properly low temperatures (-13C on Monday night is the latest).

We don't bother with 'stocking up' but might fill a few receptacles with water if it's going to get that cold as the water supply may well not be robust enough for those temps. The current outlook seems to be that we might get 3 icy / snowy days then back to mild / wet.

Batten down the hatches & good luck everyone!

Two of my children go to school in Citta Sant' Angelo, near Pescara and the school (or Mayor) decided on Friday morning to close Monday and Tuesday at least. It is quite refreshing for someone to make an early decision as it takes out the guess work on Monday morning should I, shouldn't take the kids to school.

My daughter's university at Pescara is also closed on Monday, the day she had an exam too. So everyone in my household is happy and they can all have a relaxing weekend.  ::)

As my old neighbour used to say "Do buckle up everyone"!  :)

Not yet. It's still somewhere between damp & drizzling, but it's coming down as rain, not snow.

The next couple of days when it's forecast to be VERY cold, the forecast is for 'light' or 'moderate' snowfall so I'm hoping it won't be too bad.

Nothing here either, the drizzle got a bit “ floaty” at one point but it’s back to damp and dismal now.

I expect it’ll hold off till I’m out with the dogs at maximum distance from home 😜
