Copelands removing earthquake cover
« on: July 04, 2017, 09:14:20 PM »

We have just had notification from Copelands that they are removing
earthquake, subsidence, landslip and heave from our house insurance.
due to the earthquakes in Italy last year.

In hindsight maybe I should have claimed for the cracks that did appear after the quakes, however as they are only cosmetic I didnt bother,
Anyway
has anyone had a similar issue or knows of an insurance company that will still provide cover?

Our house insurance was through Copelands too, and the brokers found us another insurer when the policy would have renewed earlier this year because of the earthquake and landslide cover having been removed - across Italy apparently, not just in earthquake affected areas.
The broker is Robertson-Isaac in Newcastle, and the new policy is through Breeze Underwriting.
It covers earthquake damage with an excess of 250, and subsidence, landslide and heave with an excess of 1,000.
Hope that helps.

Yes, that looks like them; we've used them for 10 years or so and they've been very helpful, though we've never made a claim so far

I recommend :

Schofields Underwriting Agencies
Trinity House, 7 Institute Street, Bolton, BL1 1PZ.
T: 01204 365080  F: 01204 394346

Who we have used for the last 6 years. Good cover including earthquakes. However, most important from my perspective is that we had a big claim (10k) after a burglary 2 years ago  and they handled this superbly, speedy response, very fair settlement and no unrealistic demands for increased security or hike in premiums.
