Newbie in Castelfrentano
« on: March 08, 2016, 07:02:12 PM »
Hi all - I'm Susie. I was a member of the forum for a while and got lots of excellent information from you all, but fell away (as you do). Happily I've made it in one piece, been here nearly three weeks and am now getting used to life in Castelfrentano. Look forward to hearing from you and posting if I can help other newbies.

One thing I'm missing is BBC iPlayer - how do you all access UK TV?

You need a VPN to 'convince' iPlayer' that you are still in the UK .. I use Hola .. which is now working very well after some teething troubles.

Or you can watch for nothing here...

http://www.filmon.com/tv/bbc-one

..just wait for all the nonsense to happen and then click on "watch for free".

If you want BBC radio go here...

http://www.bbc.com/news

and click the 'more' button at the top of the page, click radio and select.

If you are using a Mac device, sign up for Netshade ($18 per year) it provides a proxy server and you can watch tv or listen to radio as if you were in the UK.

And, welcome back😃

We've an Amazon Fire TV Stick, put the KODI software on it and a few video add-ons and you're away.

Thanks all - nice to hear from you  :)

I have Kodi on the laptop already and love it, but was after current BBC stuff like Dr Thorne, so will investigate a VPN, thanks.

Check out StrongVPN, its about 35 euros a year, we have used it for 2 years, great service and a great tech support.

As Shebar said, if you're just after current(live) terrestrial channels ITV, BBC and some of their derivatives, Filmon works well and doesn't need a VPN to operate. Using an Apple device, through an Apple TV works great. The Catch up services will need VPN though

Out of interest does anyone know if a UK Sky Go account would work abroad?

Not sure about UK Sky Go but there is an app from the apple AppStore called UK TV Play, which has loads of programmes to watch. I have it installed but have hardly used it because I have film on and Iplayer, ITV, Chanel 4 and 5 but I spend most of my time listening to the radio 🙂

Finally, after months of bureaucracy, today I've been granted residency status woohoo! Having a Kiwi passport flummoxed the local comune and Questura, but it's all sorted now.

Apparently I wear the proud badge of being the first Neozelandese in the village - since WW2, at least :).

I had to laugh - when they were putting my details into the comune computer, there was no option for New Zealand! :D

So now I'm from Oceania - all of it  ;D

I'm from Hastings UK but became ' nuovazeeladese' at my comune. It took months to sort out, obviously someone clicked on the 'wrong' Hastings on the computer.
